Primary Status: Key staffer leaving NHGOP for private sector job

JUNE 17 UPDATE: CHRISTO LEAVING PARTY. A key New Hampshire Republican Party staffer who organized at least seven successful party events, including five that featured announced or prospective presidential candidates, is stepping down.

Ellen Christo told the Granite Status today that she is leaving her full-time position as the NHGOP's director of development and business relations to accept “an exciting new professional opportunity” in the private sector.

Also today, the party will announce the addition of a new staff field representative.

Details of Christo's new position with a private firm are expected to be released next week. But she said she expects to remain active in the state GOP in a volunteer capacity, which will allow her to continue to help party Chairman Jack Kimball plan and organize events during the presidential primary campaign season.

Christo was named to the newly created post in February, shortly after Kimball was elected chairman.

She was deeply involved in planning party events that featured Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani, Michele Bachmann, Newt Gingrich and Karl Rove, as well as an upcoming speaker series fundraiser with Herman Cain. Christo also was involved in organizing a major party fund-raiser in March that featured Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus.

Party spokesman Christine Baratta said Kimball and party officials “are thrilled for her” and confirmed that “she will stay involved with the state party helping us when she can.”

Later today, the party will announce that Jacob Avery has joined the staff as a field representative.

Avery has been a political activist since the 2006 campaign cycle and has worked on campaigns in New Hampshire, New York and Washington, D.C.

Last year, he was field director for state Sen. Andy Sanborn and state Rep. Laurie Sanborn in their successful legislative campaigns. Avery holds a bachelors degree political science from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh and is pursuing a masters degree in public administration from Marist College.
