Five held for duping by promising railway job
NEW DELHI: The central district police busted a gang of cheats involved in duping people of lakhs of rupees by promising to get them the job of TC ( ticket checker) in Indian Railways. Cash to the tune of Rs 1.82 lakh, along with fake appointment letters, fake call letters for medical check-up, fake marksheets and fake online registration certificates of Railway Recruitment Board, was recovered from their possession. The accused have been identified as Rambir Singh (46), Jai Kiran Singh (52), Pavitra Kumar (21), Ved Prakash (63) and Anshuman Dubey (34). They are from Lucknow, Saharanpur and Bijnor in UP.
"On May 31, two persons - Ashok Kumar and Bhupender, both from Mathura - reported at Kamla Market police station that they were in search of a job and came in contact with one Pavitra Kumar who lured them with the job of TC in railways. He demanded Rs 25,000 per person and since they were in need of work, they agreed to it. They were called near New Delhi railway station for payment and were also asked to submit two photographs each. After some days, they were again called by Pavitra at the same place and introduced to Jai Kiran and Rambir who posed as officials of Indian Railways,'' said Vivek Kishore, DCP (central).
The accused showed them online registration certificate of RRB to convince that they have already been registered and qualified the board's written examination. Following this, Rs 80,000 was taken from each of them. They were further asked to appear for interview at Baroda House, New Delhi, on May 30 for final selection. While they waited outside Baroda House, neither Pavitra nor any of his accomplices turned up. Their phones were also switched off.
During investigation, local intelligence was gathered and technical surveillance mounted. Pavitra was arrested from New Delhi railway station and at his instance Rambir and Jai Kiran were also apprehended. Two other members of the gang, Anshuman and Ved Prakash, were also arrested and on questioning the accused revealed that they targetted young aspirants either directly or through agents by promising a railway job. Those who fell prey were issued fake appointment letters, registration, medical letters and were charged money at each stage of recruitment. On average, they used to extract Rs 3.5 lakh per person.
