Being single no hardship
Time for a true confession: I love singles. And, no, I'm not talking about my taste in bars or my preference for just the one fat- enriched patty of reconstituted chicken in my burgers. I'm talking about the humble bike motor. The single-cylinder motorcycle engine has a lot going for it - light weight, low cost, and a noticeable reduction in the inertia effect that a counter-clockwise- rotating crankshaft has on a bike's steering.
That's why Honda's choice of a single to power the CBR250R, its new entry into the commuter-learner sector, earns the big tick from me. The smaller the bike, the better the reasons for it to have just the one mechanical lung, and the quarter-litre CBR takes most advantage of an engine format noted for its sublime simplicity.
Foremost of these advantages is a reduction in the cost of a bike's production.
The single is both the capitalist's and Greenpeace's friend.
It reduces the number of mechanical parts a bike engine requires to the barest minimum, saving both money and natural resources. And Honda has passed on that saving to the bike buyer. At $7495, the fully-faired CBR250R is $500 cheaper than the equivalent Hyosung GT250R, and $1500 less than its closest Japanese-branded rival, the $8995 Kawasaki Ninja 250R. Yet the CBR looks more lavishly-finished than both those bikes - the two-tone paint is more luscious, the triple- headlights are more brilliant and the operation of the switchgear is more luxurious. At no time does this bike look or feel the pauper of its sector before you set it in motion. Then you'll soon know that it has a similar spark-plug count to the average lawn mower, and realise that spending extra on the Kawasaki or Hyosung could have bought you an extra engine cylinder.
But even in motion, there are advantages to being single. The mechanical format always results in reduced mass, allowing one-lunged motorcycles to claw back the superior power outputs of those with more cylinders. And so-called thumpers might be restricted in their capacity to produce peak power by the lower rev ceilings the single- cylinder format allows, but they're fine generators of torque.
The CBR is no exception, because its four-valve, dual overhead cam, fuel-injected single delivers 23 newton metres of torque at 7000 revs per minute. That's one more than the Hyosung and Kawasaki twins deliver at 8000 and 8200rpm respectively. Add this modest increase in grunt - and the earlier access to it - to the lighter mass of the Honda (10 kilograms lighter than the Kawasaki and 16kg less than the Hyosung), and you should be in no doubt which of the three 250s is the easiest ride. That advantage continues at the pumps. The Honda will need to fill up as often as the other two, but you'll be buying petrol for a 13-litre tank instead of the 17 litres required to fully replenish its two rivals.

Pros & Cons of Walk Behind Lawn Mowers | Lawn Mowers
Walk-behind lawn mowers vary according to many factors such as what fuels the movement, how blades move, what pushes the whole mower, and what happens to grass clippings. The best type of walk behind depends mostly on the slope and size of your lawn: how many trees you have: and what is the condition of your lawn: smooth or weedy? Of course, your workout also enters into your choice. Some people think that mowing is a good exercise, while others may want it to be as easy as possible.
Most often, a self-propelled gas mower is moved by its motor without being pushed. It can be front-wheel drive or rear-wheel-drive: single speed or variable speed: and some may have cruise control.
Recommended for half an acre lawns, the self-propelled mowers cut more evenly as compared to other kinds of mowers for lawns. They can start with an electric switch. Another high-end feature is a blade override. This stops the blade without cutting the motor. It means that you can stop a self propelled mower to empty the bag or to pick up objects without restarting the engine. It also adds more to your safety.
Like any gas lawn mower, a self-propelled model needs regular cleaning as well as maintenance. They’re noisy enough and require hearing protection. They’re the most expensive mower type that’s most apt to need repairs. Safety is also a concern. Emissions are another major concern for both global warming and air pollution. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that gas mowers emit air pollution. You can minimize emissions by simply selecting a mower with an engine that can meet emissions standards of the CARB: California Air Resources Board. If it seems impossible, choose a 4 cycle OHV-overhead-valve engine because it’s more fuel efficient and can last longer than any 2 cycle mower engine.
Gas Powered Push Mowers
Highly suggestive for lawns up to one third of an acre, push lawn mowers require more physical exercise. They need lesser amount of repairs than any self-propelled mower, yet they don’t last for long. They can easily bag clippings. Experts recommend them for side discharging mode or mulching.
Corded Electric Mowers
They offer easy starting and have lower noise levels. They’re light weight and reported with lesser emissions than any gas mower. Some communities offer discounts for switching from gas mowers to electric mowers. Corded electric mowers can be found as both self propelled or push mowers .
