Heartland 2011 Ecuador Team: Sunday, lovely Sunday

Today we went to church! The skate church, La Roca, is housed by an Ecuadorian Alliance church, and we were able to be a part of the service itself: Brendan, Jen, Jamie and Moriah led some worship; Melissa's drama group presented "The Champion" (showing the battle between the light and the dark and how Jesus has always come out victorious - our champion!); and Wade preached. During the sermon, another group of us led the kids' ministry. We did a puppet show and Bible skit about bebe Moises (baby Moses). Isaiah made an excellent baby, but David U. won the group of chicos over with his portrayal of the Pharaoh's daughter! Then we played a game of "pato pato gonzo" (which some of you might remember from last year: the Spanish name for duck duck goose). :D A bunch of us (those with the ability) either skate-boarded (Nathan, Greg, Levi, Jamie, and David H) or put on some rollerblades (Morgan) or hopped on their unicyle (Jordan B) and had fun on the ramps. A few others tried (with varied success) and the rest of us enjoyed watching. There was an amazing rollerblading contest and we watched as they flew across ramps and through a concrete tunnel, doing crazy jumps and even flips! Heading back to camp, we had a little time before supper to just relax.Then we all met to discuss the armor of God and spiritual warfare. We broke into groups and prayed in every room, asking God for protection and to pray for the health of our teammates. Then we started to settle for the night. One group took some time to worship together in the main room, while others retired to their rooms to the day of worship and speaking. Everyone makes a night early, we go to La Roca tomorrow for our first big day of work so we want to ensure that we are well rested! Youth World (a ministry of International Teams) will provide our team with two hosts in Quito, Ecuador, who will be with us over the course of our mission experience. They will act as interpreters, guides, and friends. Through the partnerships that we will experience through Youth World we will be involved in: children’s ministry, youth ministry, sports ministry, sharing dramas and dance, construction, and sharing testimonies. During our time in I am the Director of Grade 5/6 (aka, the 56ers) at Heartland Alliance Church. I also spend time as a youth leader there and lead a girls small group. I love to travel and experience other cultures.
