(Harrisburg) -- Units from the Pennsylvania Air National Guard are involved in the international effort to enforce a no-fly zone in Libya. Members of the Harrisburg-based 193rd Special Operations Wing have been conducting psychological operations as part of the mission, which includes broadcasting radio and television signals to the population on the ground. Major General Wesley Craig, the state's acting adjutant general, says about 140 airmen from the Pittsburgh-based 171st Air Refueling wing have also been deployed. "Quite literally almost overnight, for the 171st, one tanker left on Friday. Another one left on Saturday. Another one left on Sunday on a 24-hour notice," he says. "So, it says a lot about the dedication and the readiness of our units in the Air Guard." Both the 193rd and 171st are operating throughout the western Mediterranean area of operations in support of U.S. and coalition missions against Libya's military. Craig made the announcement during a state Senate budget hearing this week.
